Ten Teams Participate At Washington
Park In Chicago On May 7th
CHICAGO: Ten teams gathered
at Washington Park in Chicago on May 7th to play in the ASA Men's
Sixteen Inch National Qualifier with the Dogg Pound going 3-0 to
win the title and the ASA Men's Class A Sixteen Inch National Berth.
The Dogg Pound's pitcher Mike Coleman was chosen as the MVP of this
tournament. The Young Guns (3-1) finished in second place with Steel
Gold (1-1) and Stella's Angles (1-1) finishing in a tie for third
The Dogg pound opened play with a 16-5 win over the Flames to open
their tournament play. In a semi final game the Dogg Pound defeated
Stella's Angels 16-5 to put them into the championship game. Stella's
Angles had open play with a 5-4 win over the Newcomers in their
opener to make it into this semifinal game.
The championship game was a defensive game with the Dogg Pound edging
out the Young Guns 3-2 to claim the title and earn their 2005 ASA
Men's Class A Sixteen Inch National berth that went along with the
Runner up Young Guns drew a pigtail game against the Fighting Fifth
in the blind draw formatted tournament and came away with a 15-8
win to move into the regular bracket where they met and defeated
the Rebels 10-6 to put them into the semifinal of this tournament.
In their semifinal game the Young Guns took the field with Steel
Gold opposing them and when the dust had settled back down onto
the field of play after the final out had been recorded it was the
Young Guns emerging victorious over Steel Gold 12-8. Steel Gold
had advanced into this game by defeating the Gladiators 25-4 in
the first round of tournament action.
The championship game was a narrow loss to the Dogg Pound as they
Young Guns were forced to accept second place from this tournament
after suffering a 3-2 loss to the champions, the Dogg Pound.
