Jerry's Kids Champions At USSSA Class E In Joliet

Eight Teams Particiapated At Inwood Complex On May 7th & 8th

JOLIET: Jerry's Kids (6-1) from Elwood won the 'if necessary game over One Timers/Hubbs & Henry (3-2) from Joliet to lay their claim the title of the USSSA Men's Class E National Qualifying Tournament held at the Inwood Sports Complex in Joliet on May 7th & 8th. Eight teams participated with Ebbey's/Rezin Sports Medicine Centers (2-2) from Morris finished in third place with Nasty Naybors (2-2) from Bolingbrook taking home fourth place.
Jerry's Kids opened the tournament by using a big nine run fifth inning to propel them past Nasty Naybors 17-6 in six innings. The leading hitters for Jerry's Kids were Jason Adams (LF) 3 hits with 4 RBI, Mike Miles (RC) 3 hits, Jerry Santerelli (C) 3 hits, Jeremy Poch (SS) 3 hits with 2 RBI, John Pecora (P) 3 hits and Aaron Hinchliffe 2 hits with 2 RBI in this game.
Jerry's Kids tasted defeat in their second game as Ebbey's/Rezin Sports Medicine Centers held them to one run as they edged Jerry's Kids 3-1. Jerry's Kids were led at the plate during this loss by the hitting of Adams with 3 hits and Santerelli with 2 hits.
Once in the loser's bracket Jerry Kids refocused and went to work as they sent home Ambrosia Bar & Grill first by a final score of 11-6. The top hitters is in this game for Jerry's Kids were Adams 3 hits with 5 RBI, John Fox (3B) 3 hits with 2 RBI, Pat Walker (2B) 2 hits with 2 RBI, Andy Christiansen (C) with 2 hits, Pecora 3 hits and Hinchliffe 2 hits.
On Sunday morning Nasty Naybors could not field a team at game time giving Jerry's Kids a walkover 7-0 win advance them into the next round of play where they got a chance to get some revenge over the team that had beaten them the day before Ebbey's/Rezin Sports Medicine Centers.
Jerry's Kids now were presented with the opportunity to not only move closers towards the title game but also getting a chance at extracting some revenge from Ebbey's/Rezin Sports Medicine Centers who had beaten them the day before. Trail 5-2 in the fifth inning Jerry's Kids reached down to find that something extra as they scored six runs to take an 8-5 lead before holding on to win by a final score of 8-6. The top hitters in this win for Jerry's Kids were Santerelli' with 2 hits and 3 RBI, Mike Miles with 2 hits, John Fox (2B) with 2 hits, and Joe Ballantine with 2 hits in the game that put them into the tournament's championship game.
The first championship game was a true nail biter against the One Timers/Hubbs and Henry with Jerry's Kids finding a way to come out on top by the final score of 6-5 to force the playing of the 'if necessary game in order to determine which of these two team would be the champion. The top hitters for Jerry's kids in this win were Walker with 3 hits, Miles with 2 RBI, Fox with 2 RBI, and Jeremy Poch with 2 hits.
Gin the extra game Jerry's Kids held an 8-1 lead when a player from the One Timers/Hubbs and Henry was called out at third base on a close play which led to his ejection and the premature ending to this game.
Jerry Kids were led in this tournament by Jason Adams .667 with 11 RBI, Jerry Santerelli .556 with 5 RBI, Andy Christiansen .667, Joe Ballantine .625, John Fox .526 with 8 RBI, Mike Miles .500 with 4 RBI; John Pecora pitched brilliantly and hit .476, and Aaron Hinchliffe .476 with 3 RBI.
One Timers/Hubbs & Henry made it to the championship game by winning the winner's bracket. They opened play on Saturday with an 11-5 win over Ambrosia Bar & Grill from Joliet in the first round of play. One Timers/Hubbs & Henry improved to 2-0 on Saturday with an 11-3 win over the No Showz putting them into the winner bracket championship game to be played on Sunday.
The One Timer's/Hubbs and Henry continued their winning way on Sunday morning as they defeated Ebbey's/Rezin Sports Center in a close game 8-7 to earn their spot in the tournaments championship game to be played later this day against whichever team that wins the loser's bracket to challenge them for the title.
When the dust settled back down at the conclusion of the loser's bracket a match-up with Jerry's Kids awaited the One Timers/Hubbs and Henry in the championship game. The One Timers/Hubbs & Henry dropped a narrow one run game to Jerry's Kids 8-7 to lead to the playing of the 'if necessary game' in order to determine which of these two team would be the champion. In that extra game an ejection of a One Timers/Hubbs and Henry player after a close call at third base created a premature ending to the game and the tournament which Jerry's Kids were leading by the score of 8-1 at the time and that score became the final score in this last game.
