URBANA: Eight teams gathered at the Route 130 Sports Complex in Urbana on July 16th to play in the ISA Men's Class D World Tournament Qualifier with Lakota from Urbana winning this event with a perfect 4-0 record. Lakota had previously won a 2005 ISA Men's Class D World Tournamtn berth so they passed the berth down to the tournament runner-up Kelly Glass (3-2) from Peoria. Big Ox Softball (3-2) from Chillicothe finished in third place with fourth place going to Alpha (2-2).
Lakota opened tournament action with a 21-3 pasting of Pabst Disposal in the first round of tournament play.
Lakota improved to 2-0 with a 13-0 win over Furry, Inc. Furry Inc had advanced into this game by defeating Kim's Auto Body 9-4 in the first round of tournament action.
IN the game between the tournaments last two unbeaten teams it was Lakota recording a 20-17 win over Kelly Glass to become the lone unbeaten team left in this tournament.
Lakota now had to wait until the loser's bracket was played out to its conclusion before knowing which of the remaining teams would emerge as their opponent in the championship game. After the loser's bracket was concluded it was a rematch with Kelly Glass that awaited the Lakota ball club in the title game.
This time it was all Lakota as they made a statement to everyone watching that they were the number one team this day as they posted an impressive 17-1 win up onto the bracket board to finish off the last remain opponent in Kelly Glass to win this tournament.
Kelly Glass made it to the title game by opening the Tournamtn with a first round win 12-11 over Arrowhead/El Toro to advance into the second round of tournament action.
Kelly Glass and Alpha now lockup with each other in this second round game with Kelly Glass posting an impressive 15-3 win up onto the bracket board to put them into the winner's bracket finals.
In a hard fought game Kelly Glass came out a little short on the scoreboard as they dropped the undefeated game to Lakota 20-17 to fall into the loser's bracket where they would need to win in order to get a second shot at Lakota and the tournament championship.
Kelly Glass and Big Ox tangled in this game where the winner earns the right to oppose Lakota in the championship game with Kelly Glass getting the better of this day winning 10-5 to earn a second shot at both the Lakota ball club and the tournament championship.
The title game was all Lakota as Kelly Glass was forced to accept second place after dropping a 17-1 decision to unbeaten Lakota to finish in second place at this tournament.
Kelly Glass did not supply Illinois Softball Report with any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able to achieve their second place finish from this tournament.
