Lumber Company Wins NSA Class D/E

Five Team Tournament At Country Club Hills On June 18th

Lumber Company Champions Of NSA D/E In Country Club Hills

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS: The Lumber Company, from Joliet, IL, won the June 4th NSA "D" World Series Qualifier in Country Club Hills with a 5-1 record. The Lumber Company earned a NSA "D" World berth to Indianapolis, IN and also a NSA Regional Berth to Arlington Heights for winning this tournament.
Jesse oaks (2-2) from De Kalb took second, Hell Yeah (1-2) from Glendale heights finished in third place with Snafu (1-2) from Country Club Hills taking home fourth place from this five team event.
The Lumber Company opened the tournament by playing the Gamers and they came out smoking scoring fourteen first inning runs on their way to a 19-4 five inning short game victory.
Game number two matched the Lumber Company against Jesse Oaks and again the Lumber Company again out of the gate fast by scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning. Jesse Oaks defense stiffened from this point on as they chipped away at the lead. With the score standing at 7-6 in favor of the Lumber Company entering the seventh inning Jesse Oaks out a man on base before unloading a walk off two run homer to defeat the Lumber Company 8-7.
Now in the loser's bracket the Lumber Company had some work to do. The first team they sent home was Snafu. The Lumber Company bats got hot once again as they cruised to a 21-5, 4 inning, run rule victory over Snafu.
Next up was Hell Yeah. In a game that went back and forth until a four run sixth inning by the Lumber Company put them ahead for good as they won 12-11. This win advanced the Lumber Company into the championship game and a rematch with Jesse Oaks, the team that defeated the Lumber Company earlier in the tournament.
Needing to double dip Jesse Oaks to win this tournament the Lumber Company went to work. With the wind howling in, scoring runs were at a premium and the Lumber Company was able to plate just five runs but their strong defense shut out Jesse Oaks to win by a final score of 5-0 and force the playing of the 'if necessary game' in order to determine which of these two team would earn the title to this tournament.
One game for all the marbles, the winner take all scenario Jesse Oaks broke on top early with a 4-0 lead. The Lumber Company rallied to push seven huge runs across the pay station in the third inning to take the lead over Jesse Oaks 7-4. Jesse Oaks would continue to chip away at the Lumber Company lead but the Joliet based ball club would add a couple of more runs to win 9-7
This tournament took a total team effort by the Lumber Company with all thirteen players contributing as they had to play six games, in the heat in six hours time.
For this tournament the leading hitters for the Lumber Company were Jake Pool, .667; Jeff Behun, .583, 6 RBIs; Jim Lesnik, .571, 7 RBIs; Eric Boe, .529, 4 HR, 14 RBIs; Ryan Nurczyk, .556; Matt Wallace, .500, 6 RBIs; Brad Walsh, .500, 6 RBIs; Rick Motta, 9 RBIs and Kenny Wallace 1 HR.
