Wizards Win NSA D

Eight Teams participate At Melas Fields in Arlington Heights

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS: The Wizards from Schaumburg went 4-1 to win the NSA Men's Class D World Qualifying Tournament held at Melas Fields in Arlington Heights on April 23rd. Road Dawgs (5-2) from Crystal Lake finished in second place, Women's Touch Painting (2-2) from Kenosha, WI, was third with Add-A-Bath (2-2} from Gurnee taking home fourth place.
The Wizards opened play with a match up against Squeeze and they rolled to a 21-11 six inning victory to advance in the bracket.
The Wizards second round match up was against Women's Touch Painting. The Wizards were winning by one run going into the top half of the seventh inning. The Wizards than hit a home run over the allowed limit, giving Women's Touch Painting a two runs and the lead. (New NSA rule for 2005). The Schaumburg based ball club managed to bounce back and tie the game before holding serve in the bottom of the seventh inning forcing the need to play extra innings in this ball game. The eight inning belong to the Wizards as they posted a 27-18 extra inning win onto the bracket board to continue their advance through the field of teams.
This victory allowed the Wizards to play Road Dawgs in the championship game. The entire team was able to hit well, and play good defense to make this happen. Bachara, Nelson, Reidy, Kazcor, Pagni, Mikes, Davies, Page, Farnam, Greco, and Maxwell were all important parts to the win.
In the championship game the Wizards found a hungry Road Dogs team that was looking for double win to capture the bid and travel money. Road Dogs jumped out with a lead in that first game and never looked back as they beat the Wizards 13-11.
Now the 'if necessary game' was needed to be played in order to determine which of these two remaining teams would be the champion. The Wizards took control early as the y bounced out to a big lead as they coasted home with a 15-7 victory to claim the title and the top prize that goes with that title.
Wizards spokesperson Bryan Page said, "We want to thank the tournament officials, and the complex at Melas Park for having the fields ready to play after all that rain Friday. The fields were amazing. Thanks again."
Tournament runner-up Road Dawgs opened play with a loss to Women's Touch painting in the first round of play losing 9-3. This loss dropped the Crystal Lake ball club into the loser's bracket where they got things working in the right order as they posted a quick 7-0 forfeit win over No Joke who failed to show up at the tournament this day.
In their second loser's bracket game the Road Dawgs met and defeated Squeeze 23-15 to advance again.
Add-A-Bath squared off next with the Road Dawgs but the Crystal Lake ball club was a team on a roll and they steamrolled over Add-A-Bath 23-3 moving them into the loser's bracket championship game where they were able to extract a pound of flesh from the team that had beaten them to start their day off, Women's Touch painting 23-20 to send the Wisconsin squad packing for home with third place.
In the first championship game the Road Dawgs continued their winning ways as they posted a 13=11 win over the Wizards to force the need to have the extra game played in order to decide who would win the championship.
That extra game was not kind to the Road Dawgs as they ran out of gas and fell to the Wizards 13-7 forcing them to settle for second place at this tournament.
The Road Dawgs did not supply Illinois Softball Report with any team information, stats or quotes on how they were able to achieve their second place finish at this tournament.
